KINECTS adapted to detect disorder symptoms in children

The motion controller KINECTS is no stranger to the medical procedures were reported in January that slowly unfolding in the operating room for surgical care. But now researchers at the University of Minnesota, Microsoft KINECTS sensors once more as a way to measure disorder symptoms in children.

The team, composed of a number of researchers from the Minnesota Medical Association, Science, Engineering and Education / School of Human Development, received an amount of $ 3,000,000 National Science Foundation grant to use in their research KINECTS. Were seeking to observe and analyze the behavior and movement abnormalities in children. These models could indicate possible behavior problems such as OCD, autism and attention deficit disorders.

Traditionally, these observations made by people via video recordings of patients. But one of the leading researchers in the project believe KINECTS based system could take the subjectivity of the process. This could result in significant savings of thousands of dollars compared to other diagnostic methods and conventional procedures. In some cases, the system KINECTS may eventually reduce costs up to $ 100,000 and also prevent the need to place sensors intrusive for the child.

Open-source PC operating systems and Microsoft KINECTS official SDK which was released earlier this month (spring for a non-commercial use) is to help researchers to adapt technology to their needs. But it will be another six months before their system is ready for testing.

Intel’s new SSD is the 6Gbps 510 series

We knew that Intel would release some new SSD, sooner or later, and it turns out today was the day. The company unveiled the DSS series 510 with a 6Gbps fast interface to allow maximum flow in the latest motherboards of today, such as packing Intel chipsets own point of Cougar.

In its press release pointed out that Intel's 510 series is capable of reading data over 500Mbps and wrote more than 315MBps, that significantly higher rates compared to older products. The 510 does not seem as fast as we heard the first reports of the second generation SSD based SandForce (chipsets used as SandForce SF-2200), but Intel is just behind the writing speed. Intel has focused more on reliability and brand recognition with its SSD therefore should not be a problem if you (again), do not offer the fastest products on the market.

new units are built on Intel's 34nm companies, MLC NAND architecture. The big change with the 510 is using a Marvell controller instead of internally developed by Intel.

The transition to 6 Gbps SATA III will eliminate an important bottleneck flow SSD, although users will have a new motherboard to take advantage of it. Still, they are updated (and they need new motherboards, flawless sand bridge) you should see a significant increase in transfer rate compared to older products. older consumers Intel SSD X25-M a ceiling of sequential read / write speeds of 250Mbps and 100Mbps.

510 ship 120GB SSD and 250GB 1000-unit prices of most of the $ 284 and $ 584. Everyone makes a three-year warranty.

Sony Is Working On Hack-proof PS3 With 300 GB Hard Drive

When pirates Chaos Congress last year announced the method by which they had found the master key for PlayStation 3, which was immediately obvious to most that the PlayStation 3 just irrevocably hijacked. The master key, after all, allows any piece of code to impersonate Sony officially sanctioned code. Worse, the key is encoded on each PlayStation 3, so that Sony can not be changed. This means that all existing PlayStation 3 can jailbreak forever.

Since the master key has been released by Sony have gone through a lot of trouble trying to pee out of the pool, as was known to sue the hackers who have found the master key. All aware of the security, however, knew that the only thing Sony could do was to issue the new system, which uses a new (and better hidden), a master key.

Now it seems that is exactly what Sony is doing. After some recent declines in prices around the PS3, an anonymous source close to Sony said now that the machine console is deep in plans to develop a new test PS3 hackers, probably with a new key.

According to the report, hack-proof SKU will be a PS3 Slim has a 300 GB hard drive. This hard drive is designed to be an incentive to upgrade when the new system will cost about $ 299 when it hits ... which is exactly the same price as the current model 160 GB

Sony's best hope against piracy at the moment is that people replace their PlayStation 3 ... a tactic adopted by Sony with their PSP hacker-friendly. I, however, is a bigger hard drive at the same price that many hackers now encourage their libraries full game for free.

Activision kills Guitar Hero, DJ Hero franchises

Only five years after the first game was released almost universal acclamation, the Guitar Hero franchise is officially dead after publisher Activision announced yesterday that they would be decided by the music-gaming business.

The measure, which saw hundreds of workers lose their jobs effectively cancels the next Guitar Hero, due for release in 2011. The next game DJ Hero series has been canceled.

It's not really a surprise, though it is sad to see what had been one of the best video games of all time to govern the country. Playing with the music business of supersaturation has been declining for some time: when Activision has sold 1.5 million copies of the third Guitar Hero game series in the first month, the last game of the series are sold only 86,000 copies of the same month .

Guitar Hero is not only the title of a music game business problems: a few months ago, Viacom has also closed the MTV Games division to publish and sell Rock Band maker Harmonix.

It 's strange apathy when game was plenty of death Guitar Hero franchise, some people would have to show that the real cause of music are in decline because of the expense of incredible titles licensed songs.

Nevertheless, it seems that the old guard of the game music is dead and now we must look new. It's the end of an era.

For tablets only Google: Honeycomb

There are some tablets Android out there right now, and some - like the Samsung tab Galaxy is still very good - but it is not very controversial to say now that Android is not good for tablets. Heck, even Google says so.

And that's the point of Android 3.0, also known as honeycomb. Google recognizes that a compressed operating system is good not only for the largest display: the Tablets of the people use different ways to use smart phones, and even the mere fact of the broad financial balance can stress the more robust operating system.

Honeycomb, so is an important step tablets Android ... one that will do all the tablets came before look squat and half-baked by comparison. But what about smartphones? Honeycomb is a radical leap like Android for smartphones, as it will be compressed for Android?

Google confirmed today that it will not. Why? Because smartphones honeycomb will not. This is a single-release tablet.

This comes as a surprise to some, but not really much of one. Apple, for example, originally published by IOS IPAD 3.2, which never came to the iPhone. Instead, the branches and IPAD iPhone IOS month met the bass line IOS 4.1.

The same is happening here. Google Android is about to get up to speed with tablets, then merge the two branches of the core code Android later down the line. This does not mean that some of the most appropriate operation of honeycomb is not coming for Android smartphones in the past, but Google is already promising a part of a gradual introduction of smartphones honeycomb biggest prizes.
